In the wake of George Floyd's murder we have seen the racial divisions and inequities across the globe come under a new focus. This is a conversation that is of great importance to both me and my constituents.
I believe it is incumbent that we use this moment to look with renewed vigour at the role racism plays within our societies, and so I was incredibly pleased to see the recent announcement of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.
The Commission, which had its first meeting this week, is independent, and is comprised of esteemed representatives from the fields of science, education, broadcasting, economics, medicine, policing and community organisations. It looks to report its finding on the priority areas of health, education, criminal justice and employment by the end of the year.
This Commission is an incredibly important step on the road to positive change and I am excited to see the work it will undertake.
Racism remains a stain on global society and I will continue to follow this issue closely and support these efforts made to end racism.
