Milton Keynes MP Ben Everitt has highlighted the Government’s new scheme to allow key workers to get tested for coronavirus more easily.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock plans to have the capacity to test 100,000 people a day by the end of the month but this relies on people requesting tests if they believe they have symptoms.
The Government has again expanded the list of people who can get a test and it now includes NHS and care staff, teachers, hospital cleaners, public servants, the emergency services, supermarket staff, delivery drivers, and other critical infrastructure staff.
From today (24/04), essential workers and their families can follow this link: https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/ to book a test for coronavirus.
Ben commented, “This is extremely welcome news as testing is key to helping us beat the coronavirus and get back to normal.
“This new process makes it easier, faster and simpler for the people on the frontline to get tested for the virus, whether that’s our wonderful health care staff or our fantastic supermarket workers.
“So if you are an essential worker, or a member of their household, who has symptoms of the coronavirus please do use the link on the Government website to apply for a test.”
