Milton Keynes continues to be a leader in electric car charging points across the UK thanks to significant investment from the Conservative Government, and local MP Ben Everitt has welcome a new announcement to help boost electric car ownership take-up.
A new grant will provide up to 75% of the cost to buy and install chargepoints, up to £2,500 per socket, up from the previous £350, while the Government is also investing in charging points through the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund which includes £1,642,000 for Milton Keynes City Council.
Such significant funding from the Conservative Government into electric car infrastructure in Milton Keynes means the city now has 179 chargers per 100,000 population, more than double the 73 per 100,000 across the rest of the UK. On top of this, there are now more than 46,000 electric or hybrid vehicles on MK's roads.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "I'm delighted the Conservative Government is continuing to invest in this vital infrastructure for our forward-thinking, innovative city. I have consistently championed Milton Keynes as a place to invest in the latest technology and it's fantastic the Government has been listening.
"Labour may be hitting drivers with more roadworks for their MK East development and putting up car parking costs for local people, but Conservatives will always be on the side of drivers, making sure we encourage a switch to greener technology not causing misery for MK's drivers."
