Milton Keynes North MP Ben Everitt has welcomed the news Network Rail will be spending £6 million to make improvements on the railway between Milton Keynes and Rugby in the New Year but has urged passengers to check ahead for any disruption to travel.
The work will take place from 4th January until 12th January and will see four kilometres of drainage upgraded and three kilometres of track and replaced which should reduce the amount of delays for passengers due to flooding in the Milton Keynes-Rugby area.
These improvements would previously have been done over several weekends, but Network Rail say they will be saving £3 million of taxpayers' money as part of their initiative to modernise and become more efficient by working 24/7 during the working period.
Trains will still run for passengers but with a diversion via Northampton. Journeys will be about 25 minutes longer than usual and people travelling on London North Western services will need to change at Rugby.
Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check National Rail Enquiries.
