Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed the news the number of rough sleepers in Milton Keynes is at an eight year low.
According to the latest Government figures, during a snapshot study in 2021 there were 18 people sleeping rough which is a 62.5% drop on 2017. It is also the lowest figure since 2014.
The Government's Everyone In initiative during the pandemic was vital in getting rough sleepers off the streets and into emergency accommodation, while Milton Keynes has benefitted from millions of pounds in funding to tackle homelessness over the last few years.
Ben commented: "I am encouraged by the latest figures which show rough sleeping is at an eight year low in Milton Keynes, but as I've always said, one person on the streets is one too many so I want to continue working with local charities, local organisations and the Government to end rough sleeping for good.
"I want to say a huge thank you to the MK Homelessness Partnership, the Winter Night Shelter, the Bus Shelter MK, the MK YMCA, Crisis and so many other charities for the work they do to support homeless people."
