Workers in Milton Keynes are set for a well-earned pay rise in April as the National Living Wage increases to £8.72 an hour.
The increase means that since the Conservatives came into power in 2010 the average income after tax will have risen by over £5,260 for the lowest paid workers.
In the South East the increase will affected 303,000 people and MK North MP Ben Everitt has welcomed the biggest ever increase to the National Living Wage.
Ben Everitt MP commented:
“I know just how hard the people of Milton Keynes have been working so this pay rise is well deserved and I’m really pleased families across MK will be getting more money in their pockets.
“I’m very proud to be part of a Conservative Party that is delivering the higher-wage, lower-tax economy we all want to see.”
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said:
“Hard work should always pay, but for too long, people haven’t seen the pay rises they deserve.
“Our government will put a stop to that, giving nearly three million people from Edinburgh to Eastbourne a well-earned pay rise, including the biggest ever cash boost to the National Living Wage.
“But that’s not all. As we enter a new decade, we’re setting our sights higher, to help people earn more over the next five years and level up access to opportunity across our great country.”
