Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was in Milton Keynes today (23rd January)  meeting apprentices at Milton Keynes College’s Innovation and Technology Centre with local MPs Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart.

The Conservative Government introduced new T-Levels in 2020 as a new way to prepare students for entry into skilled employment and the College has been leading the way.

The Prime Minister met aeronautical engineering apprentices, tested his hand at carpentry and even stopped for plenty of selfies with students.

In 2021, the Government provided more than £3 million to the College to construct new buildings on its Chaffron Way campus to boost the Engineering and Construction department.

It also provided a £3.5 million funding pot to set up the new Chaffron Centre which aims to improve links with business, in a special pilot scheme.

Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, commented: “I was delighted to show the Prime Minister the fantastic work Milton Keynes College are continuing to do to ensure our young people have the skills they need to succeed in their careers.

“Milton Keynes has huge potential to be, and already is, a hub for skills and technology and I know Rishi is committed to ensuring we are levelling up skills right here and across the country.”

Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, added: “It was a privilege to welcome Rishi Sunak to Milton Keynes on its 56th Birthday and host him at Milton Keynes College.

“At their Chaffron Way Campus, MK College offer a wide range of excellent apprenticeships giving everyone the same opportunity to a good education and I enjoyed showcasing some of them to the Prime Minister.

“The Conservative Government has invested in Milton Keynes College through a variety of channels including the SkillsHub:MK at the Chaffron Centre, the Institute of Technology in Bletchley and offering T-Levels.”
