Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, was delighted to get involved with a new John Lewis Partnership initiative this Christmas to help vulnerable families living in the Milton Keynes area.
Linking up with Home-Start UK, John Lewis are bringing some magic to families who've had a tough time this Christmas by providing them with everything they need to have a truly unforgettable Christmas.
From decorations to gifts and special food we’ll help them celebrate together in a way that’s unique to them. To do this, we are working with around 120 local Home-Start networks across the country to offer support to those families identified as most vulnerable this Christmas.
Coordinated by local John Lewis and Waitrose Partners who act as community liaison ambassadors, we are working with each local family to compile their Christmas wish lists and provide them with what they need to be able to celebrate Christmas in a way that might not previously have been possible.
Ben Everitt MP and Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, recently visited John Lewis Milton Keynes to learn more about the initiative and helped wrap presents for local families and deliver them to the children.
He said: “This new initiative from the John Lewis Partnership is a wonderful idea to support those most in need this Christmas and it’s so lovely to see businesses being so engaged with our local communities.
“I was delighted to come along and help wrap some presents and spread some festive cheer for vulnerable families across Milton Keynes.”
A John Lewis Partnership spokesperson said: “Everyone deserves a magical Christmas, but sadly it can feel out of reach for many families. Our initiative is just one small way we’re trying to offer support to those families who need it most this Christmas. We hope that this initiative will help raise awareness and inspire others to act as even the smallest donation could make a huge difference”.
Vivien Waterfield, Deputy CEO of Home-Start UK said: “For some families Christmas can be an especially difficult time of year. With the rise in heating and living costs, many are facing tough choices between food and fuel. This can feel especially difficult during the festive season, when parents naturally want their children to experience a little Christmas magic. Thanks to John Lewis, I’m delighted over 160 families will get to experience some Christmas magic this year and make special memories together.”
In addition to this initiative, the John Lewis Partnership is donating £1m to help create more magical moments for families across the country - working with charity partners FareShare and Home-Start.
Partners in local stores will use the funding to support families in need in little ways to make their Christmas more magical, from donating a tree, to hosting a Christmas meal in-store and donating gifts to local children and charitable networks.
