Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, was given a tour of Milton Keynes College by CEO Julie Mills and discussed the College's work with prisons and apprenticeships ahead of #LoveOurColleges Week.
On the tour of the Chaffron Way campus Ben was delighted to meet students and apprentices to hear about how the college is supporting them get ready for the world of work., The College has courses in aeronautics, engineering, health & safety, bricklaying, early years care and much more.
Following that, Ben and Iain Stewart, the MK South MP, had a meeting with the College to discuss their 30 years of work in prison education as a national provider from the North of England, down to the Isle of Wight and out to Wales to support more than 8,500 prisoners get over 21,500 qualifications at a 90% success rate.
Ben was pleased to hear about how the College's successful bid for £3.6 million through the Government's Skills Accelerator fund will benefit their learners and how they're working with employers and schools to ensure they can provide young people with the skills local businesses need.
Ben commented: "It was fantastic to be given a tour of Milton Keynes College's Chaffron Way campus on Friday and meet so many apprentices and students benefiting from their courses. The College plays a wonderful role in Milton Keynes as well as being a prison provider, the lead partner of the South Central Institute of Technology and working with local businesses and SEMLEP to understand their needs."
